Sweet Shanghai Surprise Recipe

Crispy pork lumpia filled with vegetables and pineapple tidbits, served with a sweet and tangy ketchup-pineapple sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup onion, red
  • 1/2 cup carrot
  • 1/2 cup celery
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 500 g pork, ground
  • 1 pc egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper, black, ground
  • 215 g cheese, processed
  • 1 tsp all-in-one seasoning
  • 3 pouch DEL MONTE Pineapple Tidbits (115g)
  • 32 pc lumpia wrapper
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • oil, for frying
  • SAUCE:
  • 2 Tbsp sugar, white
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup DEL MONTE Original Blend Ketchup (320g)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Reserved pineapple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch

Procedure

1 Add the vegetables to the ground pork and add the egg. Season with salt, pepper, cheese, and all-in-one seasoning if desired.

2 Add the drained DEL MONTE Pineapple Tidbits and mix well.

3 Place a heaping tablespoon of filling in each lumpia wrapper. Roll and seal with a little flour paste.

4 Fry the lumpiang shanghai in oil and drain well.

5 Prepare the sauce by combining sugar, water, DEL MONTE Original Blend Ketchup, salt, and reserved pineapple syrup in a pot. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 minute. Thicken with cornstarch slurry. Serve with the lumpiang shanghai.
